What are the Objectives of Alberta Securities Laws?
This talk will examine the role of securities laws in fostering fair and efficient capital markets and other intended regulatory objectives. It will outline the structure and jurisdictional perimeter of securities regulation and show how regulatory objectives are achieved under a provincial statutory framework with local rules, national policy and instrument harmonization under the Canadian Securities Administrators, the mission and role of the Alberta Securities Commission and self-regulatory organizations, and efforts in global coordination. It will also canvass challenges in achieving the objectives of securities regulation including motivations for, and the constitutional viability of, a national securities regulator. The workshop will conclude with a Q and A session for registered participants.
