Event description

Description

Why is the meeting happening now? How will it affect human rights in & out of North Korea? What do North Koreans think about the meeting? Come and learn more at our special panel discussion on May 9th!

“What you need to know for the Trump-Kim meeting” will outline what Canadians need to know as they await for the high-level meeting to take place between the U.S. and the DPRK. The panelists will address the following questions: What does each side want? How does the regional security context affect these negotiations? What are the economic, political, social, military, and human consequences if these negotiations fail? What role can Canada play in this tensed regional context?

This panel will also aim to humanize these North Korean security narratives, by investigating the high politics and body politics involved in these leadership meetings.

You will have the opportunity to hear the perspectives of North Korean refugees themselves, government officials, and renowned scholars in the field of security, foreign policy, and refugee studies.
