Event description

Description

The fourth theme of the Healthy Kids Community Challenge, beginning in Janury 2018, will focus on healthy screen use.

At this forum, community partners will have the opportunity to learn from local researchers about the various effects of screen use on children and youth, and the adults in their lives, and the best practices for behaviour and interventions to mitigate the negative impacts of screen use.

Featured Speakers:
Dr. Michelle Ponti, Child and Parent Resource Institute (CPRI)
The impacts of screen use on psychosocial and cognitive development, and the new CPS guidelines for healthy screen use.

Dr. Leigh Vanderloo, ParticipACTION
The impacts of screen use on physical activity and sedentary behaviour.

Dr. Danielle Battram, Brescia University College
The impacts of screen use and on-screen marketing on eating habits and unhealthy consumption.

The afternoon will also provide an opportunity for partners to help shape and provide feedback on the draft Theme 4 Action Plan. The Action Plan is based on the strategies and initiatives from London's Child & Youth Network 2017-2021 Agenda. Partners will be able to discuss how they can integrate the healthy screen use recommendations and best practices into their services, programs and workplaces.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Any questions, please contact William Roberts (London's HKCC Coordinator) at wroberts@london.ca or 226-980-6997.

See you there!
