Join us for a night of heartfelt films and insightful conversations as we explore the challenges and victories of living with disabilities.

In partnership with posAbilities, Cineworks presents three new collaborative film works shot on 16mm film and processed in the Cineworks Annex darkroom. Each film was co-directed by a student at Emily Carr University of Art & Design and a member of the posAbilities community to present new perspectives on creative collaboration, analogue processes and living with disabilities.

(1) When Colour Bursts Through | Directed by Brittney Appleby and Gregory Grant | 4mins

When Colour Bursts Through explores the power of creation and artistic expression's ability to help process our deepest emotions. Art is for everyone: we all have the potential to create something meaningful.

(2) Rider | Directed by Miranda Orth and Svava Tergesen | 7mins

Rider is an experimental documentary that follows a horseback rider as they prepare for a lesson. Cycling between old memories and present-day processes, the film reflects on ideas of the archive, disability and therapy.

(3) Last Laugh | Directed by Jae Lew | 7mins

Comedian Jimmy Trinh and his best friend Gregory navigate kinship, theatre and disability with passion and a striking sense of humour.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers.

Accessibility Notes:

Cineworks is currently solely accessible via back alley entrance located between Howe Street and Hornby Street. There is limited free parking at our alley entrance, with additional metered street parking on Howe Street. This event will take place in our studio on ground level, which is wheelchair accessible.
