Event description

Description

Anxiety problems in children are not uncommon and parents are often left wondering if their child’s worries are simply ‘just a stage’ or something that ‘needs clinical evaluation and intervention’. Anxiety in children takes many different forms, such as being afraid of something specific (e.g., storms/dogs), not wanting to go to school, worrying about their performance, anxiety about what other kids might think of them, worrying about something bad happening, not wanting to be away from their parents, or finding that they need to constantly repeat certain
behaviours or that they get stuck on certain thoughts. In addition to their worries, many children experience physical symptoms associated with their anxiety (e.g., headaches and stomach discomfort) which leave parents puzzled as to how to intervene. This presentation, principally focused on children 6-12, will be directed toward helping parents feel more confident in successfully navigating the maze of childhood anxiety.
