Where They Stood: The Animated Series
Event Information
About this event
The animated series will be a 20-month project. We will recruit a group of English-speaking Black youth between the ages of 15 and 35. Each intern will have access to Toon Boom software licenses, followed by workshops designed and led by animation specialists from Cinesite. The project aims to offer our participants a holistic experience in the world of animation.
In 2021 the BCRC, in collaboration with 10 English-speaking Black youth, embarked on a journey to create a book that highlighted the history of the English-speaking Black community in Quebec. The BCRC's Where They Stood: A Historical Account of the Evolution of the Black-Anglo Montreal, set to be published in 2023, has inspired the creation of an animated series. The book and series focus on the evolution of Black, English-speaking organizations created in Montreal; in response to settlement challenges and development within Black communities.
The completion of the project will provide the youth with marketable animation production experience to pursue animation higher learning degrees and knowledge to enter the booming animation workforce through internships. The BCRC, in partnership with CineSite, aims to have scholarship programs in place for the youth who wish to pursue animation as a career and offer internship opportunities for those who desire to work in the field.
Join us May 9th at 6:00 pm and May 19th at 5:30pm to learn more about our animation project and the opportunities in store.
