Event Details

"The [dandelion root] coffee proved excellent- far superior to the common coffee we procured at the stores. To persons residing in the bush, and to whom tea and coffee are very expensive articles of luxury, the knowledge of this valuable property in a plant scattered so abundantly through their fields, would prove highly beneficial.  For years we used no other article..."
~Susanna Moodie, Roughing it in the Bush

                                     Roasted Dandelion Roots

This workshop is back by popular demand!

Using certain plant parts, especially seeds and roots, as a substitute for coffee has a long history of use. In this workshop we will explore three common, weedy roots (dandelion, burdock, chicory) that make delicious tasting coffee.

We will discuss plant identification, harvesting, processing, preparing, as well as the health and nutritional benefits of these flavourful beverages.

                                     Dandy Roots

This is a hands on workshop where you have the opportunity to get involved in every step of the processing, and enjoying a good cuppa!

Participants take home their own jar of coffee.

The Wild Garden shop will also be open for holiday shopping!

Cancellations require 48hrs notice for full refund, less processing fee.

Fee is $25 for the workshop, plus a $5 materials fee.

For alternate payment options, barters/exchanges or questions, feel free to contact me!

The Wild Garden

The Wild Garden provides community members with local, organic and sustainably harvested wild foods and herbs, through the Wild Food & Herb CSA.  Offering exciting, educational walks and workshops, The Wild Garden also introduces community members to bioregional, edible and medicinal plants. Imagine stepping outside your door and and being able to recognize the abundant banquet of plants surrounding you.  You’ll never look at those dandelions in your lawn the same way again!  Teaching the kind of nature connection that fosters a greater intimacy and deeper understanding of the local landscape, the Wild Garden encourages stewardship, relationship and care of the spaces we inhabit.
