Event description
A day that combines mindful creating and gifting with sustainability and using what nature provides to coax magical colours for dyeing

About this Event

As we approach the season of holiday gatherings, we wanted to provide an offering that combines mindful giving with the use of craft in creating thoughtful pieces to share with others and also to create sustainable and reusable gift wrapping. Our workshops are centred around these ideas along with creating dye materials from what's abundant from the earth during this season, common food scraps, and how to integrate some of our favourite dye materials and techniques to create colours that are long lasting and beautiful.

We wanted to provide this offering before the season shifts into full holiday mode. There are certain aspects of the holidays that we especially love but that can get lost sometimes when the hustle and bustle of the approaching season starts to amp up. Essentially, our intent is to cultivate a hygge experience that embraces a moment as special, cozy and charming. Our idea is that this day can serve both as a way to come together and get creative with botanical dyes, but also to intentionally lean in to being cozy, enjoy a meal together, share space with kind people, and enjoy some of the special pieces we've collected in our gift bags - consider this a mindfully-curated gift from us to you.

What's included:

  • we'll be creating botanical dyes using foraged plants, food scrapes, and some of our favourite dye materials, demonstrating how to shift colours, and showing you some of our favourite techniques for natural dyeing
  • our workshops will include two projects that will help us approach the upcoming holiday season with some handmade and uniquely dyed items that you can use in your own home or gift to others as a sustainable way of wrapping gifts
  • you'll recieve a handmade holiday stocking and a furoshiki cloth to dye, made using organic unbleached cotton
  • all dye materials you'll need, along with instructions to take home
  • a beautiful catered lunch by chef Tania of Staff Meal, suitable for plant-based and gluten free diets
  • mulled apple cider and treats
  • a botanically-dyed Wild Woven canvas tote filled with a curated selection of special surprises! The details are a surprise, but will include items from some of our favourites including Neblina+Noche and Creatives by Carly.

The event will be hosted by our friend Slow Gather in St Catharines, Ontario. The address as well as important details for the day will be emailed ahead of the event to all our guests.

We would be thrilled for you to join us at this very special day, and we cannot wait to share all the details of what we have planned with you.

FAQ

Do I need any experience with natural dyeing to attend?

Not at all! We welcome beginners – no previous experience or skills required. We’ll be walking everyone through our process during the first workshop of the event.

How should I dress for this event?

Wear something comfortable and warm since our workshops will be held outdoors. We’ll have a fire for warmth and to use in our dyeing, but we want you to feel cozy so dress appropriately. We try to stay tidy as we dye but we would encourage you to wear something that wouldn’t get ruined by natural dyes, just in case!

Will the whole event be outdoors?

We’ll be eating inside The Dakotah House, which will be cute and cozy and a nice way to warm up together. Our two dye workshops will take place outdoors.

Should I bring anything with me?

You may wish to bring a bottle of water with you. Otherwise, all your workshop materials, meal, and a snack are included.

What’s in the gift bag?

We are creating something special so this will be a surprise for our guests! We can tell you that we’re keeping our gift bags on-theme so think curated mindful gifting and leaning into the coziness of the season. We can’t wait to share these with you!

Will this event be different from your other workshops?

Yes! If you've attended one of our short workshops before, you'll notice that this one feels different as we'll have 2 separate dye projects and we'll be using different dye materials and methods. We try very hard to make our workshops unique and to provide value to our guests. This event will also include a catered lunch and some special gifts for those that attend.

Do you offer refunds?

Since we only have a limited number of spots, we will not be offering refunds on cancellations but you are welcome to sell or gift your ticket to someone else so they can attend in your place. If doing so, please let us know so that we can make sure we have everyone’s contact information as we’ll be sending out an important email prior to our event with the exact address.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Please contact us at hello@shopwildwoven.com with any questions you may have

About WILD WOVEN

Created by Christine DuRoss and Katelyn Powers, Wild Woven Collection creates botanically-dyed textiles and leads workshops to share the art of natural dyeing with others. We believe that botanical dyes are magical – there’s a beautiful array of colour available in nature and they are sometimes different from what you might expect. Botanical dyes help us bring traditional dye techniques, skilled craft, and creative expression to the items we surround ourselves with and we love sharing this knowledge with others in our workshops and events.
