About this event

Awareness Exercise Outcome Goal: To enable attendees to support their companies' in-house spill preparedness program by participating in tabletop workshops designed to bring awareness to various aspects of a spill response and build familiarity with WCSS equipment in a dryland equipment deployment demonstration.

No tickets will be issued for this exercise - you will be required to sign in.

Rather than each of our Coop Areas offering 1 or 2 exercises throughout the year, WCSS is planning to test drive an idea that we think will offer far more flexibility to our member companies as it relates to meeting the annual exercise attendance goals. As we develop a proof of concept for functioning on a higher level within a zone structure, we recognize that exercise attendance can be a sticking point for some of our member companies. We are aiming to simplify the options by offering:

-Multiple demonstrations within a WCSS zone within one week

-Group sizes will be restricted to observe government recommendations, so at this time we are asking member companies to limit the number of attendees they register to 1 – 2 key Response individuals.

- 3-Hour field sessions supported by 30-minute E-Learning modules and a 20-minute online WCSS Orientation video that we will ask all attendees to complete prior to coming to the field deployment.

FAQs

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

In the past the answer was yes. However, with the new 2021 training initiatives in place where we will be requiring attendees to complete a 20 minute orientation video as well as a E-Learning module relating to the type of in-person exercise you will be attending, it is strongly recommended that the person that will be attending the in-person exercise signs up under their own name. If you are an administrator that is tasked to sign up attendees on their behalf, please create an account under the attendee’s name that way when the link to the Orientation Video and the E-Learning module is sent out, it will get to the correct person. We will require the completion confirmation in order for the attendees to take the in-person course.

Does a company need to attend each exercise where it has operations, or can I attend one to cover for a few areas?

WCSS encourages member companies to consider the number of staff and/or contractors that have a basic awareness of your in-house spill preparedness and response program, and encourage you to plan your training accordingly.

Zone 1 (Areas P, Q & S): If your operations are within Areas P, Q, and/or S, attendance at any of the 6 offered Online Wildlife Awareness or Leadership Awareness Webinars will suffice as exercise representation for any of those Coop Areas for 2021.

Zone 2 (Areas H, M, N, O & U): If your operations are within Areas H, M, N, O and/or U, attendance at any of the 6 offered exercises will suffice as exercise representation for any of those Coop Areas for 2021.

Zone 3 (Areas G & I/J): If your operations are within Areas G and/or IJ, attendance at any of the 6 offered Online Wildlife Awareness or Leadership Awareness Webinars will suffice as exercise representation for either of those Coop Areas for 2021.

Zone 4 (Areas D & W): If your operations are within Areas D and/or W, attendance at any of the 6 offered exercises will suffice as exercise representation for either of those Coop Areas for 2021.

Zone 5 (Areas VR-1 & Y): If your operations are within Areas VR-2 and/or Y, attendance at any of the 6 offered Online Wildlife Awareness/Leadership Webinars or 4 offered exercises will suffice as exercise representation of either of those Coop Areas for 2021.

Zone 6 (Areas A, C, E & T): If your operations are within Areas A, C, E and/or T, attendance at any of the 11 offered exercises will suffice as exercise representation for any of those Coop Areas for 2021.

The AER Directive 071 specifies that each area of operations must have representation, each year. If your company is unable to meet this requirement, please refer to the feedback form on the WCSS website (under Forms) and send in a completed copy for tracking purposes.

If you are unclear about which areas you should be representing, please send your inquiry to amy.grenier@wcss.ab.ca and you will be sent a list of all coop areas where your company should be represented.

May I represent more than one company?

Yes: One person may sign in for up to 4 companies; if you have been asked to sign in for more than 4 companies, you will be required to fill out a form to be signed by the Area Chairman. Please see your Administrator at the exercise if this is the case for you.
