Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Calling all Animal Crazy Kids Grades 1-6!

Camp Fur, Fins & Feathers is a place where kids connect with animals. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for children to interact and learn about the animals that share our world. An enthusiastic staff of instructors and friendly animals give your child an enriching experience filled with hands-on animal encounters, fun activities, and crafts. As they have fun, campers learn respect, compassion, and how to provide a lifetime of care for animals.

Activities are age and developmentally appropriate. For those campers wishing to attend multiple days of camp, we have a different theme each day, ensuring diverse experiences.

Campers will learn about animal characteristics, behavior and proper pet care as well as meet and pet bunnies, cats, dogs, reptiles, birds, and more!

May my child attend if he or she has allergies?

If you’re child’s allergies are minor, controlled by medication and you’ve consulted your child’s physician, please sign up! Children will be spending limited amounts of time in the animal areas in the shelter and as much time outside as weather permits. Please consult our full FAQ page for more info about peanuts and food allergies.

What is the best way to sign up for Camp Fur, Fins & Feathers?

Applications are processed on a first come, first served basis online through Eventbrite. We cannot hold your child’s space in a camp until we have received payment. Applicants who do not get into the camp of their choice can add their name to the waitlist. Applicants will then be contacted by e-mail if a spot on the waitlist becomes available. No money is processed until your child is registered in a camp.

Once your registration is processed, a confirmation of enrollment will be e-mailed. Release forms, directions, and other pertinent information are included with confirmations. Signed release forms must be completed and received on the morning of camp. Children may not attend camp without completed forms.

Where does the program take place?

Camp takes place at the Calgary Humane Society – 4455 110 Ave SE

Parking information as well as drop off and pick up procedures will accompany confirmation of registration. We use both indoor classrooms and outdoor learning areas throughout our facility.

How is the camp organized?

Class size is limited to 12 children and led by a specially trained educator and assistants. Children in grades 1-6 will all be placed in the same group.

All children will need to bring a sack lunch as well as 2 light snacks and a bottle of water to camp each day. Children will be provided with the opportunity to eat a small snack or enjoy a drink at both mid-morning and mid-afternoon. If your child’s medical condition requires them to eat or drink at certain times please alert our camp staff prior to your child’s camp day. The Calgary Humane Society is NOT a peanut-free facility however we do request that parents avoid packing peanut products for the safety of all of our campers.

Will my child spend most of the day working directly with animals?

Everything we do at camp is aimed at teaching children about animal care, handling, and welfare. We strive to give our campers an opportunity to interact with several animals each day. However, we are an open-door animal shelter which cares for all animals including some that may be sick, injured, and sometimes aggressive. Our ability to have kids interact with animals relies entirely on the types of animals who are in residence during the camp season. Our two top priorities are to provide our campers with a safe experience and to prevent our resident animals from any undue stress. Some animals simply cannot handle the attention of fifteen children at a time and we endeavor to teach the children to respect the needs of each individual animal. That being said, when a gentle bunny, kid-loving dog, or playful bunch of kittens comes through the shelter, the camp kids are definitely given the opportunity to interact with them. In addition, activities like dog training and animal socializing with guest animal ambassadors are the highlight of the week for many of our campers.

Please note: Activities are age specific. Animal interaction is dependent upon animal health on a day-to-day basis.
