Winter Gardening: Growing Food Through a West Coast Winter

It's time to get ready for winter! That's right, if you want a productive food growing garden through the winter then you need to plan ahead and get started early. Save a little space in your garden, and join us to learn about growing hardy food crops in the depths of our West Coast winters.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • how to plan and preparing your garden for winter crops
  • tips on choosing your varieties
  • managing the winter climate challenges of light, wind, and temperature
  • simple season extension techniques
  • the difference between winter harvest crop and over-wintering crops

Instructor: Trisha McCarthy is the Supervisor of Horticulture at the District of North Vancouver. Previously, she worked at Van Dusen Botanical Gardens. She holds a diploma in Horticulture from Capilano University and a BA in Garden Design from the Oxford School of Garden Design. She is the award-winning designer and owner of Sweetbox Garden Design.
