Event description

Description

Jubilate’s Winter Light has become a much-loved annual tradition in the Vancouver choral scene, and this will be our 6th year producing the event. This year’s Winter Light will focus more on the Christmas season than we have done in the past, featuring past-Jubilate Director and local composer Dr. Larry Nickel’s A Cappella Christmas Cantata. This 35-minute, 15-movement work shares a compelling rendition of the Christmas Story as told through scripture and poems by George Herbert and William Blake. We will also feature Bob Chilcott’s Wenceslas, which tells the story of Good King Wenceslas and the Feast of Stephen in a vivid musical narrative with solos for baritone and mezzo soprano. We round out the concert with four pieces about December and Winter, including Craig Courtney’s Cold December Flies Away, which features accompaniment by piano, flute, oboe and percussion, and Stephen Main’s Darkest Midnight in December, a stunning piece and Jubilate audience favourite.
