Event description

Description

Join us for an evening of Yule fire ceremony and Full Moon ritual intention-setting to honour the rebirth of Light.

The Winter Solstice is the perfect time for myth and storytelling to honour some favourite dark-season gods and goddesses such as the Wise Woman Of Winter, Cailleach Beira, as well as her son, Angus The Ever-Young.

By the end of the night, you'll have a deeper understanding of the pagan twelve days of Yuletide. You'll leave with a hand-out detailing rituals you can do at home to sink deeply into these richly symbolic traditions.

Throughout the evening, we'll burn the Yule log in an outdoor ceremony, craft sacred fire starters and magical winter's night incense, and make our offerings to ask for blessings as we shift towards the new year.

We are grateful to be hosting this event on the ancestral lands of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples, the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations.

Please Bring

For this intimate and cozy gathering, we ask that you bring a specific food or drink offering.

It's a "pot-planned", not a potluck, so we ask that you add your name to our form and let us know what you're bringing:

Winter Solstice Yule Menu

If you have an heirloom family recipe, or are keen to try your hand at a traditional dish from your ancestral lands, sign up early to secure that food category spot! Please prepare 12 serving sizes. There should be tons of food so serving sizes can be small.

The feast is an opportunity to labour lovingly for others and to offer something special of yourself to an experience of communal wellbeing such as your time, your attention, or your ancestral knowledge. We want everyone to contribute as they are able; if your finances are tight right now, or if your health makes it challenging to prepare a dish, please choose something that fits your situation like bringing the sparkling water.

If you have capacity right now, please choose to bring some food rather than, for instance, the water or the wine. Please leave those options open for folks who have some reason other than a busy schedule that prevents them from bringing a dish to share.

Thank you for collaborating on the menu. Filling in the form above ASAP is a huge help.

Altar Goods

We will have a small table set up with an altar. You are welcome to bring something to place there (which you can take home with you – no need to leave gifts). You may want to bring a photo of a beloved ancestor, an icon or statuette, some plant material or grains – whatever speaks to you of abundance, gratitude, love, protection, or the old ways.

Why a fee to attend a potluck kitchen party?

Beverages, (both alcolholic and alcohol-free), will be provided along with a traditional eggnog punch and all the extras that go along wityh hosting for a crowd. Craft and ritual materials also provided.

Fine details

We are conveniently located in Fernwood on the #22 bus route. Street parking is limited so we suggest carpooling or transit, or park in the Balmoral block on the west side (Vic High side) of Fernwood Rd. The door will be open, just come on in. We're a shoes-on kind of house. We have a friendly dog and an aloof cat so if you're allergic, bring your antihistamines. It will likely get very hot in our tiny home with so many bodies. Wear layers so you can peel them as necessary. Come ready to sing your heart out.

Looking forward!
