WiRE Guest Speaker January - Join Mikele Brack -Founder at Urban Living Futures
With a career of over twenty years in sustainability, technology and the built environment in Europe, North America and Asia, Mikele is a recognised leader in urban innovation.
Mikele is the founder of Urban Living Futures, accelerating the commercial impact of built environment innovations via multiple deployments with global property and city clients. She is an advisor to smart city and energy start-ups, and an expert assessor for SME funding.
Recently Mikele designed & led a pioneering initiative at Canary Wharf, London, UK – Cognicity, an innovation program to attract novel smart city technologies from around the world to enter an accelerator, learn how to make their solutions interoperable and pilot them on the estate. The program kick-started an on-going smart city innovator ecosystem at CW.
Currently, Mikele is establishing a similar program in Toronto, UPPlift: Toronto in which multiple test beds will be will pilot emergent smart and cleantech solutions around the city.
Mikele helped to establish the UK government’s Future Cities and Energy Systems Catapults. She has also been a consultant to the Greater London Authority (GLA), developing a commercial building energy retrofit program and to the Smart Cities Expo World Congress in Barcelona, organizing the Canadian delegation.
Previously, Mikele led the Cities and Government sector in General Electric’s Global Growth and Operations team, developing commercial models for decentralized energy and energy efficiency solutions.
Earlier in her career, as an urban planner, Mikele worked on property and infrastructure masterplans, sustainable development studies and economic impact assessments for urban regeneration areas and urban infrastructure systems in Asia, Europe and North America.
