Event description
In the Friday evening talk, and the following one-day retreat, meditation teacher Margo McLoughlin explores the theme of Wise Effort.

About this Event

The Buddha is often described as a great physician, who clearly diagnosed the human ailment and identified the cause--greed, hatred, and delusion. In order to address our own suffering, however, and the suffering we see around us, we must summon the courage to walk the path of practice. In simple terms, this means nurturing the beautiful qualities of mind and heart, like kindness , compassion, and renunciation, while abandoning habits of mind that perpetuate a sense of separation and fear.

In the Friday evening portion of this retreat, Margo will tell another story from her collection of legends and Jataka tales (stories of the Buddha's former lives). Stories offer us vivid metaphors and inspiration for own life journey. In "The Wisdom of Crows," the twin themes of unconditional friendliness and wisdom reveal the link between individual action and social transformation.

Over the course of the day on Saturday, there will be instructions in both sitting and walking meditation, as well as a group interview and a Dharma talk.

Because of the location of the retreat (in a yoga studio), participants will be asked to have lunch at one of the nearby eateries in Comox.

The registration fee covers retreat costs. There will also be an opportunity to offer dana (generosity) for the teachings.

Margo has been practicing and studying in the Theravada tradition of Buddhism since 1986. She has attended long retreats in Canada, the United States, and Burma. She served on staff at Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, and is a graduate of the Community Dharma Leader Training Program at Spirit Rock Meditation Centre in Woodacre, California. Her teachers include Joseph Goldstein, Thanissara, Gina Sharpe, and Eugene Cash. For more, please visit margostoryteller.net.
