Each year, children and adolescents are exposed to violence in their homes, schools, neighbourhoods and through the media. A significant portion of these young people are exposed to women abuse – abusive behaviour used by an intimate partner to control and dominate a woman. Students touched by this form of violence often experience short and long term impacts that may affect their readiness and ability to learn in school.
This workshop gives teachers information and tips on:
- The impact women abuse has on children and adolescents
- Information about local resources and support for mothers and children who have experienced women abuse
- Recognition of the signs students may display when they are living with women abuse
- Support and strategies for the challenging behaviours that may be occurring in school
