Event description

Description

Want to meet other women and trans folks who share your interests? Speed dating is a fun way to meet lots of potential dates and new friends in one evening! Participants are given five minutes to chat with each person. After the event, potential matches will be contacted through an anonymous email that you provide. (We will never share your real name or email address with anyone except the matches you've selected.)

Bring a favourite book to discuss and lots of personality! Fun and light refreshments will be served.

This event is barrier-free and accessible to all, as well as having wheelchair-friendly and gender-neutral washrooms. Additional assistance can be provided on an as-needed basis with advance notice. Please let us know how we can support you, and we'll do everything we can to help.

Event is open to and intended for women-identifying, genderqueer, and trans-identifying individuals ages 20+.

Note: All participants will have the opportunity to meet with each other. Toronto Public Library is an inclusive organization; this event is open for genderqueer, women-, and trans-identifying folks ages 20+ across the spectrum.

FAQs

Are there requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

Yes. We ask that all participants be over 20 years old and identify as woman or trans. See note above for trans spectrum.

I don't identify as woman or trans, but I like to date everybody. Can I still come to the event?

No. Thanks for your interest, but this event is designed for women- and trans-identified participants only. Instead we ask that you sign up for other literary speed dating events as they become available.

Is this event accessible?

Yes. There is are wheelchair-accessible elevators to the event space. Washrooms are also barrier free.

You can request ASL interpretation for library programs. Please get your request in early, as we need sufficient notice. To arrange for an interpreter, ask at accessibleservices@torontopubliclibrary.ca. If you require additional assistance, please let us know ahead of time and we will find a support worker to help.

Is there a waitlist?

Yes! In addition to offering tickets to those on the waitlist through Eventbrite as they become available, it's also possible to score a seat by coming to the library on the day of the event. If we have last-minute cancellations or no-shows, we will happily open up a spot for you to participate. You'll know by 6:45 p.m. whether we can accomodate you. If you aren't able to get a seat at this event, though, be sure to leave us your name, number, or email address, and we will let you know when future events of this kind will be held.

What time do the doors open? How long will you hold my spot for?

Doors open at 6:15 p.m. If you are running late, we will hold your seat until 6:45 before releasing it to someone on the waitlist.

What can/can't I bring to the event?

We encourage everyone to bring in their favourite book or comic to discuss with potential dates, but if you can't think of one, movies and albums are welcome too--even cookbooks! Think outside the box. :) Since refreshments will be provided, we ask that participants refrain from bringing food or drink to the event out of respect for food sensitivities others might have.

We also ask that participants refrain from wearing perfumes and scents to the event in deference to chemical sensitivies and allergies.
