WBBC 2021 brings together women from the trades, industry leaders and other stakeholders to support diversity and inclusion in the trades

About this Event

To buy tickets, please visit our event platform here.

Women in British Columbia represent only about 4.5% of the skilled trades and that number has barely moved in decades. With the impending construction boom and labour shortage, now is the time to escalate our collective efforts to increase the number of women, and other under-represented groups, finding success in the trades.

The BC Centre for Women in the Trades' (BCCWITT) Women Build BC 2021 Conference brings together women from the trades, industry leaders and others working to support them, to network and build relationships that will lead to the increased attraction, retention and advancement of women in the trades.

Just a few things that participants will learn:

  • Best practices for building a diverse, inclusive and equitable workplace
  • Proven strategies to remove barriers to attract and retain women in the trades
  • Supports available for women in the trades

On Monday, March 8th, we are welcoming all interested people – industry representatives and supporters of women in the trades, as well as women (including trans women), trans men, and nonbinary people in all phases of their trades or trades-related careers – for a day of panel discussions that will provide education and insight into best practices to support diversity and inclusion in the trades, and lay the groundwork for a vision of an equitable and collaborative future in which trades and industry can thrive.

Throughout the month of April, we are welcoming all interested people to participate in a series of workshop and panel discussion that will provide opportunities for learning, skill sharing and community building.

To buy tickets, please visit our event platform here.

Many of these sessions are specifically geared towards an audience of women (including trans women), trans men, and non-binary people in all phases of their trades or trades-related careers. Apprentices, journeys, pre-apprentices, those interested in a trades career, and retired/former tradeswomen are all invited to take part. Speakers and facilitators at these sessions will be focused on expanding participants' networks and developing the knowledge they need to help build successful careers in the trades and beyond.

Session topics include:

  • Employing Women in Trades - Best Practices for Recruitment and Retention
  • Surviving to Thriving: Resources for Tradeswomen
  • The Be More Than A Bystander Program: What it is and how it works
  • Mental Health and the Trades
  • Moving off the Tools: Paths for Tradeswomen

Conference sponsorship opportunities are available! We need help from our community leaders to ensure the success of this event. We would love to recognize your company, union, or organization for making a commitment to building a culture of equity in the trades, through providing financial assistance for Women Build BC. We are also in need of swag for our door prizes. For more information and a sponsorship package, please email outreach@womenbuildbc.ca
