Event description
Canada’s Feminist Approach to COVID-19: How to work with and strengthen women's rights organizations

About this Event

Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy notes the importance of working with and supporting local women’s rights organizations. As Canada develops feminist international responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, now is the time to explore how we can engage and support women's rights organizations.

This interactive discussion will examine what we can learn from past initiatives and identify promising ways to move forward—to consult with, learn from, support, and strengthen women’s rights and feminist organizations.

The agenda will include reflections on the Women's Voice and Leadership program and inputs from Liz Williams (Gender Equality Division at Global Affairs Canada) on how GAC is approaching supporting women's organizations in its COVID-19 response.

Breakout rooms will provide opportunities to develop recommendations in smaller groups. Please sign up for one of three breakout discussions when you register.

  • Group 1: How do we ensure that the voices of WROs are heard in this moment (in policy discussions, in planning COVID-19 responses - global to local)?
  • Group 2: What are possible short-term steps that can be taken to support and engage WROs?
  • Group 3: What can be done to support longer-term, flexible, core funding for WROs throughout the recovery phase and beyond?

A discussion paper will be circulated in advance and a summary document will be prepared after the event.

We hope that staff from Global Affairs Canada and Canadian development NGOs will join us.
