Description

Room Location: 3050, SFU Harbour Centre - 515 West Hastings st

Considering a career in the growing international development sector? From the UN, to Global Affairs, to grassroots NGOs, international development is becoming one of the fastest growing social sectors.

International Studies or Global Development Studies, or variations thereof, are popping up at campuses across the country and around the world, making this stream one of the fastest growing undergraduate disciplines. With all of that attention comes rigorous competition.

This two part session will introduce you to those in Vancouver who are working either directly or indirectly, or have extensive experience, in international development.

The first part of the event will have four industry speakers who will introduce their work, what they do, why, and importantly, how they ended up where they are today, providing key insights for students passionate about the field.

The second section will focus on practical tips, resources and advice for current students. From talking about types of experiences employers are looking for today, to conveying your skills on paper and in an interview, we'll dive into some of the critical issues students need to be aware of.

Our Speakers:

Kris Schmit - Hope International Development Agency, Program Manager

Kate Hyde - Shanti Uganda, Operations Director

Diane Connors - BCCIC, Communications Officer

Nareena Switlo - Aga Khan Foundation, Development

Craig Vandermeer - Insight Global Education, Managing Director
