This Months' Topic: Lessons in Burnout and Boundaries
How many of us have had a coworker go on stress leave? How many of us weren’t so nice about it while they were gone? I was one of those people who would begrudgingly pick up the work of someone who was on stress leave; however in 2018 I should’ve been on one (and I knew it). I never took a stress leave and while my mental health suffered greatly, I was eventually rewarded for the work I burned myself out doing. Mental health days and stress leaves are often negatively perceived at work, and a small action of air quotes around “stress leave” accompanied by an eye roll ripples out to create a psychologically unsafe work environment. This presentation will focus on the small things we do and say (or don’t say) at work that can improve the psychological health and safety of employees and teams.
