Workshop Description

In this rare opportunity to learn from the founder of CRAFT himself, participants will learn how to implement Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT): a highly-effective, evidence-based approach for helping family members living with a loved one who is using alcohol or drugs problematically but who refuses to enter treatment. CRAFT provides families with practical and highly effective strategies to move their loved one toward treatment, while simultaneously improving their own lives.

Participants will learn:
(1) How to enhance family members’ motivation to implement CRAFT with their loved one;
(2) How to do a functional analysis of the substance misuser’s problem behavior;
(3) Domestic violence precautions;
(4) Skills to teach family members including:

  • Communication skills training
  • Judicious use of positive reinforcement
  • Use of negative consequences for substance using behavior
  • Enrichment of their own lives
  • Effective ways to invite their loved one to attend treatment
