Overview

Miniature projection mapping installations and prototypes are possible by reusing one’s old office projector, some cardboard and a Raspberry Pi minicomputer. No need to sacrifice your personal computer to keep an installation running at a party, your office or a gallery space. Using open source creative coding toolkit openFrameworks and its addon ofxPiMapper, one can create stunning projection mapping projects that run on the Raspberry Pi minicomputer and similar alternatives.

During this full-day workshop Krisjanis Rijnieks (author ofxPiMapper, https://ofxpimapper.com) will guide you through the journey of creating a miniature projection mapping installation using openFrameworks, ofxPiMapper and the Raspberry Pi minicomputer. Participants will assemble their own 3D surfaces, set up projectors and learn to use their own animated sources for texturing real life objects.

Target Audience

Digital creatives with experience in creating static or motion graphics, willing to bring their creations out of the limits of the rectangular.

Assumed Audience Knowledge

Participants should be familiar with installing and using software on their own computers. Graphic design, illustration or animation together with a pinch of scripting or programming background is going to add extra amounts of fun and promise excessive satisfaction.

Six Things Audience Members Will Learn

  1. How to set up a Raspberry Pi minicomputer
  2. How to do projection mapping with ofxPiMapper
  3. How to prepare static and animated sources to be used with ofxPiMapper
  4. Basic IPv4 networking to connect to your minicomputer
