Event description

Description

World Building: Historical, Adventure, and Speculative fiction is often set in other worlds, other landscapes, whether it be the past, the future, alternate histories, fantasy landscapes or madly experimental realms. But how do we give these worlds life? How do we colour in the backgrounds? How do we make them seem plausible enough, not to snap the suspension of disbelief, and get on with our stories? And most importantly, how do we do this without dropping giant blocks of exposition on the reader that stops the story dead in its tracks. Den Valdron, a writer of science fiction, fantasy and horror, part time historian and anthropologist, and all around smart guy takes you on a tour through history, physics, economics, geology and human nature, and throws in a handful of sneaky tips for getting away with it all.

Praise for Den Valdron’s World Building Workshop:

“A fabulous primer for someone like me, who is very new to writing.” “Humorous, informative” “Great interactivity” Got me thinking creatively from the get go” - Workshop participant June 3, 2017

“Some information given that was of the greatest interest included: “links between food and diet, personalities, characters, etc. The ‘connecting of the dots’ between culture, world & story.” - Workshop participant June 3, 2017
