World Fiddle Day Toronto Spotlight on Klezmer
Event Information
Description
Come join us for a day devoted to learning, listening and playing the klezmer tradition on stringed instruments. We will spend the day in workshops with Deborah Strauss and Jeff Warschauer, our special guest artists for the occasion, learning rhythms, melodies, chords and more, by ear (with sheet music available) as part of a wonderful Yiddish Orchestra. Towards the end of the day, we will move into concert mode, listening to Deborah and Jeff and then getting up to play what we’ve learned for family, friends and the general public. It’s a wonderful chance for an all-day immersion into a wild and beautiful musical tradition. Violin and other bowed strings are central to the tradition, but we welcome other string instruments, especially guitars and mandolins (other instruments (by consultation: email worldfiddledaytoronto@gmail.com).
