During World Ocean's Week 2023, we are celebrating all the big and small wins our volunteers have done since our first grassroots beach clean up in Vancouver over 8 years ago! Join us at Kitsilano beach to clean up and sort waste collected on Kits beach. We need your help! More details to come as we also have a very special announcement and unveiling....announced on May 1, 2023.
Our cleanups are a fun and easy way to get involved and give back.
WHEN: Saturday, June 10 from 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM
WHERE TO MEET: 1232 Arbutus Street intersection at the beach (between Whyte and Creelman Ave)– Look for the blue Surfrider tent
SORTING VOLUNTEERS: In addition to picking up litter, we also need volunteers to help sort the items collected into different recycling categories. When registering, please indicate if you are interested in sorting litter instead of picking it up.
WHAT TO BRING/WEAR: We will provide reusable gloves, buckets and pickers – however, we welcome you to bring your own as there is a limited supply. Please wear closed toe shoes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty!
LAST BUT NOT LEAST – SAFETY FIRST: Please do not collect heavy, sharp or hazardous objects. Instead, inform a Surfrider volunteer of the location for safe removal. Always use a stick or trash picker when sifting to avoid sharp objects.
