Event description

Description

Author and investigative historian, Peter Vronsky, current Writer in Residence at Toronto Public Library, will explore the perils and vicissitudes of writing about the past and the art and craft of discerning historical fact from fiction, news from propaganda, and myth from ‘fake news’. Vronsky will draw on several examples of the ‘uses and abuses’ of history, including his own personal experiences in having witnessed firsthand several historical events, sometimes working undercover, that were later described by news media and historians. The workshop will survey some of the available sources for exploring Toronto’s history and various approaches to recounting the past from narrative to structural history.
