Event description

Description

Work through your grief towards the joy that also lives in your heart in this 8-week writing circle.

Writing Through Grief is is your chance to heal, connect in a circle of like-minded people who really get it, start writing more regularly and drink great coffee/tea (we meet in Triumph Coffee's sweet little meeting room in their coffeeshop in Vernon, BC).

This all-levels workshop offers you a safe space to find your voice and explore the stories, sadness and grief your heart has been waiting to share.

Janelle Hardy, artist, writer and healing arts teacher, will guide you through a series of readings, writing prompts and exercises in a supportive and solid circle of writers (to a maximum of 10) to get your words flowing and explore and deepen into a healing writing practice. She'll give you the tools to craft and maintain a writing practice while using your body's wisdom and guidance to heal and grow.

Materials are provided but feel free to bring along your favourite notebook and pen, and prepare for transformation, creativity and relief.

ON DEATH, GRIEF AND GRIEVING

AKA loss, heartbreak and deep joy

How many of us have been allowed to cry freely and express our pain upon losing a loved one? What about the smaller losses? Divorce? Transition? Aging? All of these experiences require grief, if we are to let go and move into our new situations.

We live in a culture of people disconnected from grief, from sadness, from even the simple knowledge that grieving is useful, should be supported, and can heal.

It is hard to grieve fully and deeply when that need is not honoured or supported, and when the people around you feel so uncomfortable around your feelings and their own. How do we grieve when we’ve never seen anyone go through a healthy grieving process? How do we grieve when we don’t know how? How do we grieve when we can’t cry around our loved ones?

Writing Through Grief is about allowing. And witnessing, as we allow for the full range of feelings that come with loss.

Honouring Our Grief is a deep dive into, well, grief. It’s a discovery of the beauty that comes on the other side of grief. The sparkling moments of joy, of beauty, and of connection, all of which are only possible because of the grieving that has been done. The crying of tears, the anger, the sadness, the acceptance of how unfair life can be. It is through honouring our grief that we come to understand and honour our joy better.

FAQs

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is plentiful and cheap parking around Triumph coffee ($1 per hour).

What can I bring into the event?

I'll provide pens and simple writing notebooks, but feel free to bring your own preferred pen and notebooks. Laptops are allowable, but I'll emphasize the importance of writing with pen on paper first, then transferring it to computer/keyboard later.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Just call Janelle at 250 466 4316 or e-mail her via the contact form on her website: www.janellehardy.com/contact

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

I would say an appropriate age range is anywhere from age 13 and up.

What's the refund policy?

You can get a refund up to 7 days before the event. However, after that, unless there are extenuating acts-of-god circumstances, I don't tend to give out refunds. If you're unsure if you'll like my style, please call me and we can have a telephone conversation before you sign up (250 466 4316).

Writing circles really require showing up and participating with a wholeheartedness to get your money's worth out of them.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No. I'll have your name and contact info.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Yes, if you're no longer able to attend, before the circle has started, you may transfer your ticket.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Yes. Just let me know beforehand who will be showing up.
