Description

We are headed back for our third annual sunset jaunt up Dog Mountain, one of the most picturesque and quintessential Columbia River Gorge wildflower hikes.

This hikes boasts beautiful wildflower meadows full of lupine and balsamroot, with expansive views of the Columbia River Gorge, including peak-a-boo views of Mount Hood. After taking in a spectacular Pacific Northwest sunset from the summit, we'll head back down via headlamp.

This hike is 6.9 miles, with an elevation gain of 2,800 feet and is rated as moderate – difficult.

** PLEASE NOTE: THIS TRAIL NOW REQUIRES A HIKING PERMIT (ON WEEKENDS DURING WILDFLOWER SEASON. ** The permits are available on recreation.gov for only $1. There are a limited number for purchase.

** ANOTHER NOTE: THIS TRAIL REQUIRES A NORTHWEST FOREST PASS TO PARK. These are $5 for a day pass, or $30 for an annual pass. **

• Pack your full supply of water for the day.
• Pack snacks & a light meal.
• Dress warm & in layers. Consider wearing a base layer & bringing an extra.
• Warm gloves & hat
• Rain coat top layer
• Shoes with good traction
• A light backpack to put layers in as you shed them
• Handwarmers & toe warmers (optional)
• Headlamp or flashlight

** PLEASE NOTE: Ambassadors are not wilderness first aid certified. This is a casual get together for shared outdoor enthusiasts. Safety is a top priority; please plan accordingly.**
