About this Event

PLACE TIME CONTINUUM

In Place Time Continuum, documentary filmmaker Dwight Storring will lead viewers on a journey through place and time. From his Victoria Park neighbourhood in Kitchener to a small town in Estonia, he will show how the continuum of life is woven from the stories of everyday people. Walking the streets of his city, he will discuss the impact of place on his work. Drawing on examples from his films, he will show how time conspires to return us to the past and launch us into the future. He will also discuss the impact of ever-changing technology on the gap between media creators and the stories of ordinary people.

Dwight Storring is a documentary filmmaker and media artist based in Kitchener, Ontario. His work is centred around stories of ordinary people and their impact on the larger community narrative, emphasizing place, memory and connection. Recent productions include: “Dog’s Best Friend” (Nov. 2020) – a series of five short documentaries about the impact of dogs on people’s lives for Bell Media; “Finding John Lingwood” (2019); and “Improvised Components” (March 2020), a collection of video projections for live music presented by Soundstreams in Toronto. He’s currently working on “Anna Kaljas: The Untold Story” a biopic of the late social justice advocate. Dwight was Kitchener's Artist in Residence in 2014 and Journalist in Residence, University of Waterloo, 2005-2006. He spent over 25 years as a photojournalist, photo-editor and website editor at The Waterloo Region Record.
