Event description
X-Camera presents Zun Lee: Distant but not alone: Exploring collaboration in visual storytelling

About this Event

Lens-based visual storytelling is often regarded as a solitary endeavor, something the picture-maker does alone or with other people in the field or in the studio. Our protracted pandemic isolation has given me room to think and work differently, but also to revisit how my idea of an art practice has always relied on collaborative exploration. This session will explore how photographic practice can offer the possibility of a shared social space and to think through collaboration beyond disciplines, institutional boundaries and the materiality of the photographic object.

Zun Lee is an artist, physician and educator whose work employs visual storytelling, archival and socially engaged practice. Lee has exhibited, spoken and taught at numerous institutions in North America and Europe. His works are widely published and represented in public and private collections around the world. Selected honors and awards include: Guggenheim Fellow, Mellon Practitioner in Residence, Knight Foundation Grant, Ontario Arts Council Grant, and Magnum Foundation Fellow. Lee's recent collaboration is All Incomplete, a book written by Stefano Harney and Fred Moten, with contributions by Denise Ferreira da Silva (Minor Compositions, 2021).
