Join us Thursday November 26th from 5:00-6:30pm for our final Activist Assembly within the ‘Xpressions Against Oppressions’ series to continue the conversation regarding Alternatives to Policing. Our last Cops off Campus panel focused on community and grassroots perspectives on policing in our campuses and its relation to working class communities. What we know is that these campaigns to “Defund the police” or the overall abolishment of the police and prison systems is something that has been talked about in various communities for ages. Many communities like the multitude of Indigenous communities that inhabit this land have had various methods in which they view and practise justice, rehabilitation and criminalization. Join us as we discuss Indigenous alternatives to policing and what real restorative/transformative justice looks like and how we can learn from these communities when dealing with the capitalist white settler colonial state that is Canada.
