Event description
Want to impact on the representation of womxn & gender non-conforming artists on Wikipedia? Join us on March 5 for a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon!

About this Event

Want to make a positive impact on the representation of womxn and gender non-conforming artists on Wikipedia? Come learn more about Wikipedia and how to become an empowered participant in this global site! The more editors that care about art and feminism engaging with the site, the more Wikipedia’s content will reflect that!

Art+Feminism (A+F) is a yearly campaign started in 2014 to better represent female and gender non-conforming artists on Wikipedia. The 2020 campaign theme is Art & Activism.

Wikipedia Edit-a-thons are gathering where people learn more about Wikipedia and the various ways that they can engage with the site, including becoming editors, editing existing pages, adding content to existing pages or creating new pages.

What to expect:

YEG A+F will provide a communal contribution space, in which participants will be provided with tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, reference materials, and refreshments. Most importantly, participants will experience a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment in which to learn more about Wikipedia and art, gender, and activism in Alberta and beyond.

Schedule:

  • 2 pm: Wiki Training
  • 3 pm: Wiki Training
  • 4:30 pm: Mitchell Art Gallery Tour of Grasping at the Roots, curated by Christina Battle
  • 5 pm: Wiki Training
  • 7 pm: Wrap up panel and discussion about representation in open movement projects like Wikipedia.

What to bring:

  • a laptop if you have one, although some will be provided
  • ideas for what you want to change and/or add in Wikipedia
  • enthusiasm for learning more about YEG A+F!

Who should come:

EVERYONE should come! This is an inclusive learning and doing-it-together environment! No previous Wikipedia editing experience needed. Whether you have 5-minutes or 5-hours, you should drop by to engage with YEG A+F!

When / Where:

  • Date: March 5, 2020
  • Time: 2pm - 8pm
  • Location: Allard Hall Atrium

An additional 2-hour training session will be held in room 6-201V of MacEwan Library on February 26. Learn more at: www.facebook.com/events/626672994827354/
