YEP Leadership Program

The Leadership Program is a series of activities and workshops that endeavour to engage the Filipino- Canadian youth to learn and discover their own cultural identity and heritage. It also aim to provide an opportunity to have a better understanding on the different challenges encountered by the youth and be able identify effective strategies on how to address those issues. The program aspire to enhance the leadership potentials and skills of Filipino – Canadian youth and empower them to engage in their community.

At the end of the program, a certificate with volunteer hours will be given to the program participants.

YEP Leadership Workshop 3: Mental Health Discussion

This activity will look into topics on the different challenges and issues that young Filipino- Canadian youth are experiencing at home, school and community. Mental health issues and stress management will also be highlighted and discussed. Young people will also learn about the different resources available in Calgary and how this can be accessed e.g job and volunteer opportunities, scholarships/ grants and funding , counseling support and many others.

Mentor: Mariel "Migs" Vargas Guina

Mariel Guina holds a Master of Education in Adult Learning and Global Change, and a Master of Science in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. She is currently working for the Independent Learning and Development as a consultant, and Intercultural Wellness for Calgary Catholic Board of Education as a counselor.
