Description

In 2018, Yiddish Professor Anna Shternshis and a group of passionate musicians brought back to life Yiddish songs from the World War II that were thought to be lost. Written by Jewish Red Army soldiers and victims of Ukrainian ghettos, and lost during Stalin’s anti-Jewish purge, how are they relevant now? Join Anna Shternshis and singer Isaac Rosenberg and learn more.

Anna Shternshis is Al and Malka Green Professor of Yiddish Studies, and Director of the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies, University of Toronto. Shternshis is the author of Soviet and Kosher: Jewish Popular Culture in the Soviet Union, 1923 – 1939, and When Sonia Met Boris: An Oral History of Jewish Life under Stalin.

Isaac Rosenberg recorded children songs for the album.
