The Canada Infrastructure Bank

The Canada Infrastructure Bank is a key component of the federal government’s Investing in Canada Infrastructure Plan, designed to initiate and invest in large revenue-generating infrastructure projects that provide public benefits and contribute to the long-term sustainability of infrastructure across Canada.

The CIB will be empowered to invest $35 billion into projects as a catalyst for new forms of additional private investment into infrastructure in Canada. The CIB will operate as a commercial enterprise, at arms-length from government, but will be accountable for investing prudently within the context of government policy priorities. The CIB will deliver on its mandate by concluding and executing complex infrastructure deals using a wide breadth of financial instruments at its disposal, including loans, loan guarantees and equity investments.
