Trauma-Informed Yoga can be one way to seek support when perhaps other methods haven't felt accessible. In this educational workshop, techniques will be offered to reconnect with the body through self-inquiry, choice and self-care.

What is Trauma-Informed Yoga?
Trauma-Informed Yoga is an evidence based practice using natural breathing techniques, gentle movement and interoception (the feeling of being you). The focus is on trust, safety and choice. Empowering, invitational language is used, using choice as a guide to emphasize self-awareness and self-regulation. You may hear words like: "When you are ready", "If you like", "I invite you to", knowing that anything that is suggested is only that, a suggestion, and you are always in control of your practice. In fact, if there was one posture that you connected with and wanted to stay in for the entire time, that would be perfect and supported. Coping skills will also be offered that can support management of symptoms. Verbal cuing is used and there are no physical adjustments.

What will we doing in the Workshop?
Discussion will be offered regarding the science and methodology of Trauma-Informed Yoga and the impact anxiety, stress and trauma has on our bodies. The physical practice itself will be about 75 minutes.

Is there sharing?
There is no sharing in this workshop format.

What do I need to bring?
All yoga props will be provided. You may wish to bring a bottle of water and anything else you think might support you in your practice.

What do I wear?
Comfortable clothing you can move in. You may wish to bring an additional layer or sweater.

What if I've never done yoga before?
The practice is gentle and beginner friendly, offering modifications and choice for all abilities.

Is it a large class? Space is limited to 7 students, pre-registration only.

What about the facilitator? Shari Arial has been offering anxiety, stress and trauma programs for the last five years. She was drawn to Trauma-Informed Yoga with the desire to help others learn tools to support their mental wellness. Shari believes that Trauma-Informed Yoga is different in the way it supports each student and their experience. Shari's light-hearted approach creates a supportive space for self-inquiry and self-care while addressing the deeper mental health issues people face. Shari's training background is unique and specific to offering Trauma-Informed Yoga, including Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy (which combines elements of contemporary mind-body psychology, trauma-informed practices and consideration of body complaints); she is a Trauma Informed Yoga Teacher through Transcending Sexual Trauma Through Yoga, and holds her PTSD Trauma Informed Yoga and 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Trainings. She assists with teacher trainings and collaborates with other mental health professionals sharing her knowledge on trauma-informed care.
