YOGA for Anxiety, Stress & Trauma

Life can be a blur of instances that shapes us. We respond to what happens in life the best way we know how, in the moment, in the now, and this continues to shape our brain and body as we grow and age. The way our mind thinks, where and how we respond to stimulus in our body, there is no disconnect: what the mind-body connection means is: the way we think is the way we hold ourleves in our body. Back apin? Chest pain? sore feet? What is your body teling you? Anxiety, stress, PTSD are common, shared amongst most of us, more than most think, and because of this we offer a workshop to help you become connected to yourself again. This 21st century lifestyle asks for a lot, and this is a way to keep up with it, awareness and practice is the name of the game, a way to keep up.
Notice your mind and body through a yogic practice as Shari Arial guides you through acknowledging your thoughts, processing what you feel when you move your body through postures: explore your mind-body connection on your own, and in a small class environment. Gradualy. Gently. Beginner Friendly. For those who occassionaly or constantly work through anxiety, stress, trauma, PTSD, here is a peaceful practice to movement and mindfulness therapy.

Bring with you:
a yoga mat
any bolsters or blankets you already use for your yoga practice
*We will have pillows, bolsters, and blankets for anyone who would like to use them. Tea and water will be available for your enjoyment.
What can I expect during the workshop?
A: Students can expect a short centering meditation, gentle postures and movement focusing on noticing the body, breath work to build on coping skills and a short savasana.
How is this class different than a regular yoga class?
A: This class is trauma informed, meaning that the main goal is to facilitate a safe place to practice. It is a no touch class and specific wording is used as to allow the student to be in their own experience, rather than the use of imagery or 'yoga' language. Specific gentle postures are also used to facilitate release of tension from the body and calm the nervous system.
Is there talking involved?
A: No, in this setting there is no talking other than the instructor, Shari Arial, leading the class.
What will I learn?
A: Hopefully more awareness about yourself, breath and body movement to help you build your coping skills.
Do I have to have yoga experience?
A: The series is completely beginner friendly.
I have an injury. Can I attend?
A: Yes, the practice is completely modifiable to your needs and how you need to practice for your body. In fact, if there was a posture you connected with, you could stay there the whole class!
