Are you between 15-19 years old and interested in either getting your first job or finding a new one? Then these workshops are for you!

About this event

Strathcona County Economic Development and Tourism is hosting a series of youth employment workshops. As a result of attending these workshops, youth will increase their feelings of empowerment and self-confidence, be better prepared for entering the work-force, improve communication skills, decrease levels of anxiousness and stress and have increased motivation to go after their goals. These are skills that will set a great foundation and will be developed throughout their careers!

Participants are strongly encouraged to sign-up for all four of the workshops.

Workshop 1 - Job Search Strategies: September 20

Join Meghan Pollard from MCG Careers Inc. as she walks participants through the process of job searching and provides insights on how to make the experience easier.

Workshop 2 - What to wear: September 27

Kristen Carter from The Kartr Group will provide a fun and interactive workshop on what to wear for an interview and on the job. She will look at things to consider when choosing an outfit to make sure that youth feel confident all while ensuring that the look matches the employers' expectations.

Workshop 3 - Interview Skills: October 4

Tanya Shewchuk from Careers Under Construction will be leading this workshop designed to enhance interview skills. Learn tips, tricks, dos and don'ts of successful interviews. Review common questions and learn how to answer difficult questions. Prepare your answers and practice your new skills in a mock interview exercise.

Workshop 4 - Resume Writing: October 11

Tanya from Careers Under Construction will conclude the workshop series with resume writing. This will be a hands on workshop (computer provided) where youth can learn how to create a cover letter and resume that will get noticed.

Note: the first three sessions are being held in the Community Centre Room 2 (down the hall from the Security desk) and the fourth workshop will start in Community Centre Room 2 and end in the library on the second floor on the computers.

To accommodate busy schedules, this series is also being offered on Thursdays at the Strathcona County BGC. Please only register for one series. Arrangements for swapping dates can be made through
