Webinar 7 - Introducing new protections services for 16-17 year old youth in Ontario: Impacts and opportunities for youth service providers.

On January 1st, 2018 Ontario will increase the age of protection to include all children under the age of 18 years. By increasing the age of protection, 16- and 17-year-olds who are in need of protection will be eligible for the full range of child protection services, which will give them a better opportunity to get the support they need, and have better outcomes as they transition to adulthood.

This significant legislative and policy change has implications for youth service providers across Ontario. How can youth serving agencies work with the child protection services to improve outcomes for 16 and 17 year old youth in need of protection?

Join Lori Bennett, Manager at the Child Welfare Secretariat, Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS), as she takes us through the upcoming legislative and policy changes related to raising the age of protection and discusses the impacts and opportunities this change offers youth service providers.

David French, Director of Policy and Planning with A Way Home Canada will provide further discussion on what this means for the youth homelessness sector and how we shift from managing youth homelessness to preventing and ending it.

This webinar is an excellent opportunity for community stakeholders to engage with MCYS and let them know how they can better support your work and the young people you support.
