Description

The Yukon Diabetes Expo takes place on May 5 at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre. The Expo will bring together endocrinologists, physicians, community supports, patients, and family in a supportive and educational environment. Funded by Yukon Government.

Confirmed Speakers (with many more to come):

Dr. Dina Panagiotopoulos. Dr. Panagiotopoulos is a pediatric endocrinologst at BC Childrens Hospital and is Clinical Professor, Division of Endocrinology, Pediatrics, at University of British Columbia. Her research relates to the prevention of Type 2 and for Type 1, she is the Clinical Core Leader within the CIHR New Emerging Team in Childhood Autoimmunity. Dr. Panagiotopoulos will speak about both First Nation responses to Type 2 diabetes as well as the treatment of Type 1 diabetes.

Dr. Breay Paty. Dr. Paty is an endocrinologist based at Vancouver General Hospital. He is actively involved in clinical care and research in the areas of diabetes and islet transplantation. He works with the solid organ and bone marrow transplant programs to treat post-transplant diabetes and other endocrine disorders. Dr. Paty's talk is Chronic Complications of Diabetes

Dr. David Lau. Chair, Diabetes and Endocrine Research Group, Director, Julia McFarlane Diabetes Research Centre. Dr. Lau's research is centered on the paracrine/autocrine, and/or endocrine factors regulating fat cell proliferation and differentiation in health and obesity. Dr. Lau's talk is the Design and Implementation of Factors that Reduce Obesity.

Jen Hanson, Executive Director, Connected in Motion. Jen is a kinesiologist and a Certified Diabetes Educator. Her talk focuses on diabetes and exercises, with a special focus on adventure therapy and type 1 diabetes.

Ramya Hosak, Founder, Young and T1. Ramya's talk will focus on the transition from pediatric to adult care. Her breakout session will focus on the need for supports for young persons with type 1 diabetes.
