Uncovering The Gender Health Gap Panel
Monday, November 15 from 7:00-8:30 pm (PST)
Did you know that it was not until the 1990's that women were included in health research trials in Canada?
Up until this point, male physiology served as a baseline. This, and other gender-based inequities, continue to impact our healthcare system to this day and can have a bearing on the medical attention and treatment you receive.
Join global health epidemiologist and public health practitioner, Dr. Angela Kaida, as well as President + CEO of BC Women's Health Foundation, Genesa Greening for this important panel discussion on how women (and afab’s) can foster greater support from the health system, the intersectional barriers impacting quality of care, and practical tools you can use to advocate for your health or someone you love.
Please join us on Zoom for this interactive virtual panel.
About the Speakers:
Dr. Angela Kaida is a global health epidemiologist interested in the linkages between HIV and sexual and reproductive health. She received her PhD in 2010 from the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She then completed a brief post-doctoral fellowship jointly at the Women’s Health Research Institute at BC Women’s Hospital and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at UBC.
Genesa Greening, President and CEO, BC Women's Health Foundation is the heartbeat of this movement. With conviction and courage, she is committed to leading the evolution of women’s healthcare across the province. Genesa is a wild-eyed optimist bolstered by an extensive background in the global non-profit space. With a tenacious spirit and bold conviction, Genesa is dedicated to eradicating inequity in healthcare for women in all life stages, determined to shed light on the misperception that universal healthcare means universal access. She is committed to underscoring inequity in research, by championing for greater investment in studies that are specific to women’s unique physiology. Inspired by the perseverance of her mother and the confidence of one of her mentors, Virginia Greene, Genesa will not rest until the Foundation’s—and her personal goal—is realized: healthy women everywhere, capable of anything.
Reflecting With 'The Breath' with Kate Horsman
Wednesday, November 17 from 7:00-8:00 pm (PST)
Wind down your day with intention and experience The Breath with the incredible Kate Horsman.

Moving Through 'The Block' with House of A La Ligne
Saturday, November 20 from 1:00-2:00 pm (PST)
Join Pilates instructors, Katie McKenzie and Taren Grewall from House of A La Ligne, for one of their signatory classes: The Block.
This 45-minute movement-based class will be hosted at Turf DWTN or virtually via Zoom by the locally beloved Vancouver duo, who both have experience leading classes through inward connection that goes deeper than muscle. Our final event will leave guests feeling rejuvenated and connected to mind & body.
The Block is not your typical workout class. As a Pilates practitioner and student of Qi Gong, Katie developed this class as a way of accessing, releasing and shifting energy to rejuvenate mind, body, spirit and soul. It is a combination of strength, power, connection and quiet - all starting from the simplest form of movement, the breath. All you will need for this class is your mat, a towel and some water. However, we always like to take a moment before we move our bodies to set up our space with some of our favourite things whether it be a candle, essential oils or incense.
The in-person class will occur at the TurF DWTN location or virtually via Zoom.
In person spots at TurF DWTN are limited to 20, so get your ticket(s) soon to reserve your spot!
Unlimited virtual tickets available
About the Instructors:
Katie McKenzie’s movement practice has evolved over the years due to her deep passion rooted in breath. As a student of Qi Gong and a certified mat Pilates instructor, Katie has cultivated a practice that honours equal parts expansion and contraction, softness and strength, compassion and fire. Through lived experience as a human, woman (pronouns she/her) and parent, she has developed a class and practice that has allowed herself, and in turn others, a space to move, open, shift and release the stagnant and stick energy that often gets held in one’s body. Katie’s movement practice allows one to push themselves and challenge their bodies while learning to also meet yourself with gratitude and love.
Taren Grewall is not only a Kinesiologist, a Personal Trainer and Pilates certified instructor, but she is a passionate movement specialist. She believes in the connection of mind, body and soul as the kingpin of how we connect into our deepest strength. Taren utilizes her own lived experience as the basis of how the body reacts to popular training and nutritional techniques. From this place, Taren leads through the perfect balance of soft and strong, incorporating the two practices of strength training and Pilates.
