Introduction to Soft Circuits and Electronics - Workshop #1
“Introduction to Soft Circuits and Electronics” is a workshop that is aimed to teach students technical approaches to prototyping wearable project with the Lilypad arduino. Students will be instructed on how to create a circuit using resistors, conductors, actuators, and sensors. They will also learn various circuit configuration that incorporate conductive threading and fabric. Students will learn how to produce simple programs that trigger event based on how their wearable circuits interact with their bodies and the environment that surround them. By the end of this workshop, students will demonstrate their technical and conceptual understanding of this course by producing their own working wearable prototype taking the form of a smart pocket.
Building Biometric and Environmental Tools - Workshop #2
In “Building Biometric and Environmental Tools” workshop students will learn how to produce clothing that utilize microcontroller, biometric / environmental sensors and actuators to interact with the space that surrounds them. Biometrics sensors are used to measure how our bodies move, respond, and react to different conditions and activities. Students will be provided with an overview of the different types of biometric signals that we can use to understand our bodies, alongside with an intro to circuit building with conductive thread and conductive fabric. Within this workshop we will focus prototyping tools that can measure and visualize this information they are collecting.
Wearable Textiles within Industries - Workshop #3
“Wearable Textiles within Industries” is a workshop designed for students to learn cutting edge methods and techniques for developing wearable products. Students will start with basic training in regards to how Wearable Technology relates to Sports, Fashion and Gaming. They will work to reverse engineer garments, reproduce patterns and eventually work with more complex methods and designs. Students will be lead by instructors who have collaborated with video game industry leaders. These instructors will use this experience to guide students through the production processes they have applied to create past projects (i.e.: motion capture suits and biometric garments). Students will finally apply these theories and techniques they learn from this workshop to create a Biometric Garment.
Together, we will expose youth to the industry problems within the Wearable space and help them identify or design solutions to solve these issues. For more information, see our information package and keep an eye out for our upcoming cohort!
