About this Event

zu Design Thinking Intensive is a 3 to 5 day deep dive into the process of design thinking. The first three days involve the more traditional approach to design thinking, giving participants an interactive walkthrough of each major phase. The final two days (optional) focus on the very specific steps of The Design Sprint with an afternoon focused on advanced facilitation techniques.

This course is hosted remotely, using online collaboration tools that allow for participation and interaction. It will provide you with skills and knowledge in:

  • How to create better experiences for your customers
  • Solve complex problems faster
  • User-centred research techniques
  • Problem identification and reframing
  • New methods for ideation and solution development
  • The prototyping mindset and user testing
  • A step-by-step walkthrough of the Design Sprint (Day 4 /5)
  • How to be an effective facilitator (Day 4 / 5)

Course Details

Day 1

  • Learn about the zu design thinking methodology
  • Become an advocate of human-centred design
  • Create personas and see the world through the user’s lens
  • Practice various research methods
  • Embark on a virtual field-research trip to solve a sample project

Day 2

  • Learn about defining and reframing your problems
  • Master various user maps (Empathy, Journey Maps, Service Blueprints)
  • Practice creating ‘How Might We’ questions
  • Improve your quick sketching abilities
  • Apply ideation and concept storytelling to your case study

Day 3

  • Learn what and how to prototype
  • Build a prototype with your team
  • Understand the steps of user testing, from preparation to execution
  • Practice running a user test for your prototype
  • Gain insights into other applications of design thinking

Day 4 (Optional)

  • Understand the history and purpose of the Design Sprint
  • Get additional reps with another real-world problem to solve
  • Practice each step of the Design Sprint
  • Go from problem to solution in one day
  • Learn to work effectively and efficiently within a team

Day 5 (Optional)

  • Quickly prototype your solution
  • Practice testing with real users
  • Learn advanced facilitation skills and techniques
  • Evolve from presenting to storytelling
  • Reflect and share learnings with classmates

Upon completion, participants receive course material summaries, fresh zu swag and an official certificate of completion.

Participants also have an opportunity to book a 1-1 session with the instructor to answer any burning questions and discuss personal design thinking applications.
