Alpine Club of Canada: Newfoundland and Labrador Section (ACCNL)
This club was started to bring together the climbing community in Newfoundland with our two main goals being expanding the community and maintaining climbing areas.
In order to build the climbing community, the main objective is to have awareness and approachability; Many new climbers don't know anything about climbing outside or don't know who to talk to about it. We will hold events for people to try climbing outside, experience new aspects of climbing, or learn the skills needed to climb safely. We can also help in finding partners or groups of people to climb with locally.
Maintaining climbing areas covers many things. From developing new climbing areas to maintaining existing areas and ensuring that we can access them safely. Over the past few years, the effects of the weather and the ocean have taken their toll on many of our climbing areas, especially Flatrock. Many routes are now unsafe and need new bolts. The Club will run projects to fix issues like this, alongside creating/maintaining trails to the areas, and developing new places to climb.
