Daybreak Non-Profit Housing

Inspiring hope, rebuilding lives. Cindy did not foresee homelessness in her future. With a good job, two children, a house and a car, she was living a normal life. Until one day, bankruptcy became the new reality and overwhelming anxiety became the norm. Gord achieved a university education, had a great job travelling the world, started a family and enjoyed sports and classical pursuits until his world fell apart and alcohol took over. Steve only ever knew a family where violence and abuse reigned and those demons haunted his life well into adulthood. Jane was an “A” student in university completing a degree in Biology until one day an attacker took away her ability to reason and to remember. As a single mother in her 40s, she often has difficulty trusting the doctors who are trying to help.

These are real profiles of real people with real struggles, real fears, real anxieties.

Each morning they awake with hope that today will be the first day of a bright future. Each night they go to sleep wondering when that day will come.

They are ordinary people. They look like you and me. They are smart, caring and vulnerable. They did not aspire to be homeless or ill. They did not expect the future they were dealt. But here they are.

At Daybreak, we believe that quality programming geared to their specific needs will help them take that first step. With group therapy focused on men’s needs, Gord and Steve took their first steps along the path towards mental and emotional health, and even with an occasional relapse, they are committed to improving their chances for a healthy life. Jane is learning to take responsibility for her recovery by working with the doctors instead of against them. Cindy is painting and has successfully sold a few.

Daybreak knows that not everyone can confront their future as did Gord, Jane, Steve or Cindy. But we believe that together, you, the Board and the staff, we can help others be inspired and find some comfort that it is possible to rebuild their lives.

Your help is the difference between a life filled with fear, anger, pain, anxiety and trauma, and one that can inspire the possibility of peacefulness and health. Show your support for the hard work of these and other residents to rebuild their lives. Buy a ticket or more and show your desire to help them start over. It happened to them. It could happen to you. It could happen to your children.
