Dr. Wagdi G. Habashi, President CERTIF-ICE Inc.

Dr. Wagdi Habashi holds a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from Cornell and is a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of McGill University, directing its Computational Fluid Dynamics Laboratory.

Professor Habashi has been active for 45 years with Aerospace OEMs in Canada and internationally, with close to 400 refereed publications, more than a third of them on in-flight icing. His research has been financially supported by Pratt & Whitney (engines), Bombardier Aviation (aircraft), Bell (helicopters), CAE (flight simulators) and Lockheed Martin (hypersonics) in various areas of Multi-physics Analysis and Design of Aerospace Systems. His experience thus spans subsonic, transonic, supersonic and hypersonic flows.

After organizing a course on in-flight icing by leaders in that field, and attending it as a student, he could not help but notice how icing simulation tools lagged 10-15 years behind those for aerodynamics in terms of dimensionality and physics, leading to a severe disconnect between aerodynamic and ice protection design toolkits with sometimes dire consequences. He then formed Newmerical Technologies International to develop FENSAP-ICE, a fully 3-D integrated aerodynamics + in-flight icing simulation system that ended up adopted by 27 countries before being acquired by ANSYS in 2015. Following this, Professor Habashi started CERTIF-ICE Inc., a company active in the field of in-flight icing certification and responsible for the natural icing campaigns of several aircraft. http://www.certifice.com

He is a Chevalier (Knight) de l’Ordre national du Québec, a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences of the Royal Society of Canada, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and of Pratt & Whitney Canada.

He is the recipient of a multitude of scientific and industrial awards.

Dr. Habashi brings nearly 25 years of dedicated research that resulted in the 3-D in-flight icing simulation tools most widely used today, worldwide. His expertise spans CFD for aerodynamics and for icing, ice protection systems design, and conducting natural icing campaigns.
