Edmonton Police Service: Community Relations Team

As part of the Equity, Inclusion, and Human Rights Branch, the Community Relations Section (CRS) will continuously work with all communities to improve the Edmonton Police Service’s policies, procedures, and practices to better serve and support under-represented, over-represented and underserved communities including but not limited to Indigenous, ethnocultural, faith based, 2SLGBTQ+ and members of the disability community.

The area is involved in a wide range of work, including promoting police education, awareness, and education of community issues, and using an intersectional lens to support, identify, and resolve crime and safety concerns. In short, the CRS will uphold principles of equity and work to dismantle systemic barriers that disproportionately impact the diverse communities in the City of Edmonton.

The Community Relations Section focuses on three pillars of equity, inclusion, and human rights integration:

Education and Professional Development

Supporting EPS members in developing the appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities, to provide an efficient, effective and professional police service for Edmonton’s diverse communities.

Community Engagement

Supporting the EPS in working in partnership with Edmonton’s diverse communities to reduce crime and victimization by strengthening trust, communication, and collaboration with one another.

Fair, Equitable and Inclusive Workplace Practices

Assisting the EPS in creating a work environment that has policies, practices, and processes that ensure fair and equitable treatment of all employees, as well as employment systems that are free of barriers that might impede the full participation of every individual in the organization.
