Ellen Jeffrey
Ellen is a dance artist and choreologist based in Lancaster. She has worked as a performer in the UK, Switzerland and Finland for various companies, including La Petite Mort Dance Theatre, Sap Dance, Summit Dance Theatre, Vera Tussing Projects and dance scholar Valerie Preston-Dunlop. As a choreographer Ellen has created and performed her own works (with financial support from University of the Arts, Helsinki) in Lapland, Finland and the United Kingdom.
Currently, Ellen is completing an AHRC-funded PhD at Lancaster University. Having trained as a choreologist at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, London, Ellen is using choreology to analyse how the perception and experience of movement at night-time affects our understanding of place. Her research questions the relationship between human and other-than-human movement, and draws upon phenomenological research methods to explore movement in and amongst nightscapes.
Alongside her studies Ellen teaches community and professional dance classes in Lancaster, and is an associate lecturer at the Lancaster Institute for Contemporary Arts at Lancaster University.
