Estonian Music Week

Hi! We’re Estonian Music Week, based in Toronto, Canada. Our mission is:

  • To showcase the high caliber and creative diversity of Estonian and Estonian-Canadian artists
  • To create a space for collaboration between Estonian and Canadian artists

Estonian Music Week (EMW) is organized by Estonian Studies Centre (ESC) and began as part of the international centennial celebrations of the Republic of Estonia in 2018. This first festival featured 19 performances, two exhibits and one commissioned composition. Attended by over 3500, performance highlights included Avarus Ensemble, Kadri Voorand and Sander Mölder. Building on the success of the first festival, the we organized a hybrid music festival and technology conference in 2019. The two-day digital technology summit dovetailed into three days of music programming through a performance by Ensemble U, during which audience members were transported to an Estonian bog with virtual reality goggles. Highlights included Puuluup, NOËP and Kaili Kinnon. We have also hosted a number of interim performances including Curly Strings, Laila Biali and Tuulikki Bartosik.
